It has long been known that a dog is a man’s best friend. Moreover, we consider pets to be members of the immediate family, and who would not want to take their family and their best friend on a holiday? However, when deciding to spend your holiday with a pet, especially with a dog, it is necessary to take care of several things. First of all, transportation – if you are not traveling by private car, you should take into account that the means of transport you choose accepts animals. With the exception of buses, most other means of transport generally accept pets, but under various rules, which should be kept in mind when planning your visit. You should also make sure that the accommodation you choose allows pets. Fortunately, such accommodation is increasing in numbers and today it is usually easy to find a hotel or apartment for all family members, regardless of the number of their legs.

And when you finally arrive at your destination and settle in a room or apartment, you want to share with your best friend the most beautiful thing that the Croatian coast has to offer, which is the sun and the sea. However, it is important to keep in mind that dogs are not allowed on all beaches. On many well-kept beaches, access is forbidden for dogs, and this is usually noted by a special sign. Because of this, many dog owners choose untidy, wild beaches. They are usually a little further away and more inaccessible than the well-kept beaches, but they are away from the crowds and the hustle and, more importantly, dogs are allowed to swim there.

However, lately there have been more and more well-kept beaches that accommodate the whole family, including dogs, and Istria and Kvarner probably lead in this regard.

Podvorska beach in Crikvenica is probably the best dog beach in Croatia, because besides being completely accessible and well-kepz, this beach also has a beach bar for dogs. It is so well known that the world media wrote about it.

If you visit Novi Vinodolski, your dogs can also swim in Mala Draga. It is a bay that is a little further from the city, but you can walk to it or reach it by car. The beach has a catering offer and is suitable for a full day stay.

Krk has numerous beaches that accommodate dogs, which makes this island a real pet-friendly destination. There is Vela plaža in Baška, which has a separate part for swimmers with pets. In the vicinity of Malinska you can visit the Fishing Village or the beach Uhlić, which you can reach on foot or by tourist train. There is also the indispensable Kijac near Njivice, which is among the most popular dog beaches on Krk. Some other notable beaches include Tiha (Silo), Redagara (City of Krk), Mala Javna (Vrbnik)…

In Rijeka, your dog can swim on Brajdica or on Kantrida, a dog beach located right next to the football stadium.

Opatija also abounds with opportunities for your dog to take a swim or bask in he sun. Your pet will enjoy the Punta Kolova beach, which can be reached from the Lungomare promenade.

Pula has nine beaches for dogs: Galebove stijene (Seagull Rocks), lighthouse on Verudela, Punta Verudela, Štinjanska vala, Hidrobaza, Valovine, Valkane, Saccorgiana, autocamp Stoja.

Smaller towns in Istria also take care of their four-legged friends. For example, the town of Peroj has the Portić beach, which is fully equipped for a full day’s stay for dogs and people.

These are just a few of the beaches in Istria and Kvarner that you can visit with your dog, and you can find the best accommodation for your family, including the four-legged members, on the Molo Longo agency website.
