Most tourists visit seaside destinations in July and August to spend the hottest months of the year swimming in the sea and sunbathing on the beach. Consequently, most tourist attractions are offered during these two months. However, there is a growing awareness of the need for tourism offerings throughout the year, especially in June and September, months when seaside destinations are also very popular. If you visit the gem of Kvarner, Krk, in June this year, you won’t regret it, as the island offers a multitude of activities.

DAYS OF THE CITY OF KRK
The Days of the City of Krk are held from May 24 to June 6, 2024, in honor of the city’s and diocese’s patron saint, St. Quirinus. This year’s events include a heritage conference, exhibitions, concerts, storytelling sessions, and more. Noteworthy is the a cappella concert “For You, Island of Gold,” dedicated to the late singer Mladen Milovčić, which will be held on the city waterfront on June 1 at 9 PM. Children will enjoy the fairy tale storytelling session by Croatian word wizard Ivana Brlić Mažuranić. Sabina Gvozdić will narrate the fairy tales on Sunday, June 2, from 10 AM in the park near Kamplin Square. In the evening, there will be a promotion of the picture book “Legend of Šurlice” by Krk authors. On the feast day of St. Quirinus, June 4, a solemn mass will be held, followed by a concert by the Krk City Music Band. On the same day, an exhibition by Krk artist Andrea Staničić will open. The Days of the City of Krk will be ceremoniously closed by children again with the celebration of the High School Day on June 6.

WINE FESTIVAL
The wine festival “In Vino Veritas” on Krk celebrates the island’s wine culture for the third consecutive year. The festival takes place on June 7 and 8 in the town of Krk. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste a wide selection of wines from local winemakers and enjoy various delicacies. The festival also includes an entertainment program with musical performances.

MELODIES OF ISTRIA AND KVARNER
The traveling festival Melodies of Istria and Kvarner (MIK) is held in several places, including this year in Punat on the island of Krk. This special festival, celebrating its 60th anniversary, presents new compositions performed by musicians from Istria and Kvarner, with a focus on reflecting the linguistic and artistic heritage and spirit of the region, such as singing in the Chakavian dialect, in the Istrian scale, and addressing the unique characteristics of life in Istria and Kvarner. This year there are 16 competing songs, and Punat will host the festival on Monday, June 3. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the cultural heritage of the region, so don’t miss it!

FOLKLORE FESTIVAL
The 68th Krk Folklore Festival is held in Malinska and will gather numerous folklore groups from across the island. The festival will last two days – on June 8, the older folk dancers will perform, and on June 9, the younger ones. This festival is the oldest of its kind in Croatia, offering visitors a unique chance to enjoy traditional performances and customs of the island of Krk. The goal of the festival is not to choose the best folklore group but to showcase the richness of movements, sounds, words, and costumes that the island’s folklore offers.

Of course, if you head to Krk in June, don’t forget to book your accommodation, and the best accommodation on the island can be found on the Molo Longo agency’s website.
