No matter how much time we devote to planning before our trip, sometimes things do not go as we wanted them to. We’re bringing you some advice how to avoid the most common mistakes before and during your trip so that you could enjoy it well prepared.

Don’t overpack
While packing, most people have surely found themselves in a situation where they realized that they had maybe packed too many things in their suitcase after all. A good advice for packing is to first prepare all the clothes and accessories that you want to take with you and then to remove half of them by putting only the essentials in your suitcase. In case you might need something on your trip, you can always buy it at your destination, and if you get your clothes dirty, you can wash them either at your accommodations or a laundry service.

Plan a smart schedule
When we’re putting together a travel schedule before a trip, we sometimes tend to get overambitious. This is a common trap when we plan shorter trips and want to visit as many local places and sights in only a couple of days. Similarly as with packing, when you’re arranging an itinerary before your trip, try to reduce the list of things and sights you want to see to only those that seem the most interesting. Don’t forget to work in into your schedule the time to relax and rest.

Keep an eye on your budget
Keeping a certain budget in mind, try to pay as much as attention as you can before and during your trip on what you spend your money on and how much you spend. Prepare an approximate budget before your trip and try to stay within it as much as possible. Add all the possible unforeseen costs that could surprise you on the trip to all the costs that you already included in your budget. If you’re traveling to a country that uses a different currency, check the exchange rate and find out in your bank if there are some additional costs for using your credit card with a different currency. Check also with your phone carrier which rates are charged for international phone calls. An additional advice is to arrange some kind of travel insurance so that you are covered in case your things get stolen or health issues.

Mobile phones and laptops
You’ll definitely want to take a lot of photos on your trip to capture all those exciting moments on your smartphone. Time spent traveling can often be pretty busy and, quite frankly, chaotic, so losing your phone or laptop is something that can easily happen. So, make sure that you back up all your photos and documents. This will ensure that you never lose all those important documents and memorable moments from your trip. Also, take all the important steps to protect your belongings from theft by keeping them in closed compartments and by your side.

Finding your way around in an unknown place
You can easily get lost in a big place, even with the help of internet and navigation. Although you will probably always be able to ask someone local for directions or recommendations, it would be best that you explore the place you’re visiting on Google Maps.
